Black & white photography project

With my PRE-FCE students we had the chance to explore the art of black and white photography. Students, working together as teams, presented the life and work of famous photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Salgado etc.
In addition, taking their own black and white photography as part of the project “CRETE: THE PAST AND THE PRESENT”, helped them view photographs not simply as transcriptions of the world, but as the products of an interaction between the world photographic medium, the photographer and even the audience.
Students realized that photographs are more than their nominal subject; they are richer and deeper in meaning than simple nouns can even capture. Personal association and the idiosyncrasies of photographer’s vision create a world of possibilities within a frame.
There is always something to discover in a photograph if one is willing to look. By doing so, we are rewarded with new understanding of ourselves, our world and the transformative power of photography.

Όταν το παιδί μαθαίνει Αγγλικά

Πότε ένα παιδί μπορεί να ξεκινήσει την εκμάθηση μιας ξένης γλώσσας και τι είναι καλό να γνωρίζουν οι γονείς ώστε η μύηση να είναι επιτυχής. Οι πρώτες φθινοπωρινές μπόρες και η επάνοδος στο σχολείο – για τους μικρούς- και στην εργασία-  για τους μεγάλους-, σηματοδοτούν  την οριστική λήξη της ανάπαυλας. Ύστερα από ένα Σεπτέμβρη προσαρμογής στην καθημερινή ρουτίνα , με γερές δόσεις ζέστης, που παρέπεμπε ακόμη στο καλοκαίρι, τη «σκυτάλη» αναλαμβάνει ο Οκτώβρης, ο «σίγουρος» μήνας του φθινοπώρου Το σχολείο έχει πλέον μπει για τα καλά στην ημερήσια διάταξη των παιδιών που, εκτός από τα γνωστά μαθήματα της Γλώσσας και της Αριθμητικής, καλούνται να ανταποκριθούν σε ένα σωρό άλλες δραστηριότητες και γνώσεις. Η μητρική γλώσσα , το «κλειδί» για «Excellent» στα Αγγλικά Όπως αναλύει η επιστημονική  συνεργάτης μας, το παιδί διαθέτει μια έμφυτη ικανότητα να επικοινωνεί, στην αρχή με τη μητέρα του, και αργότερα με το άμεσο περιβάλλον του.
